Bio
Julie has worked in the beauty industry for 35 years, including working in education and being salon based. Julie held the position of General Manager of BABTAC for 4 years and was also previously a board member for the UK Spa Association. Julie’s focus now is on a successful training academy training therapist from Level 2 up to Level 4 including apprenticeships and also spreading the message that massage for people living with cancer is a good thing and should not be contraindicated, through her work with the Amethyst Trust which Julie co-founded in 2010.

The Amethyst Trust
The Amethyst Trust is a registered charity that trains qualified therapists of all disciplines how adapt and modify their treatments to be able to provide professional massage therapy safely, with confidence and competence to clients with or recovering from cancer within salons and spas.
Our experience has shown that regular massage for people living with cancer can:
- Reduce nausea
- Restore a sense of balance and wellbeing
- Provide a sense of calm
- Reduce symptoms of pain and discomfort
- Improve sleep quality
The Salon and Spa industry is about making people feel great, giving a sense of wellbeing and helping to reduce stress. We believe everyone, including people who have experienced cancer, should be able to access the benefits of massage and be welcomed into salons and spas.
Course Outline
This is a specially designed training course for qualified massage professionals, taught by qualified tutors and covers theory and practical considerations of offering massage therapies to clients who have either experienced or are in currently in treatment for cancer.
Our training comprises of a small amount of pre-learning, plus one day face to face training (this can be carried out via Teams/Zoom) consisting of theory and practical hands on training to learn techniques and adaptations to your regular treatments, plus case studies for learners to complete after the training.
Pre-requisites
All learners are required to have a Level 3 massage qualification.
Locations
The Amethyst Trust Head Office is based in Gloucester City Centre, making it a central location and easy to access as it is within walking distance from a train station. We are also able to provide onsite training throughout the UK and Internationally, this is subject to travel and accommodation costs; please enquire for details.
Covid-secure
As a fully operation training academy we have strict Covid hygiene measures and procedures in place in line with Government and VTCT guidelines, including our tutors having completed the VTCT Level 2 Infection Prevention qualification.

The Amethyst Trust Specialist Cancer Massage is fully insurable and accredited by FHT, SATCC and endorsed by Penny Brohn and Habia.
