Congratulations to Lukas Bozik

We spoke to Lukas Bozik who achieved two second places at the National Massage Championships as well as a first place at the UK Massage Championships.

When did you start massaging?

The very first time was back at Uni, massaging friends’ feet for fun. Then years’ later my partner would ask if could massage their achy shoulder. They’d say ‘you’re actually quite good. Maybe you should try and do some training’.

What prompted you to make the jump?

I used to work in hospitality and was looking for a way out of it, so I did a course with City Lit – Level 3. I realised I really enjoyed it and was getting good feedback. So, it was a no brainer a few months later to quit the day job and become a therapist. Of course, Covid came one month later. Luckily, however, there were certain time windows when we could work.

What did the first course lead you?

I also studied Indian head massage, then deep tissue and stretch massage at the London School of Massage. Then I trained with the School of Natural Therapies in Kinesio taping which led me to sports massage ultimately leading me to take BTEC level 5. I also studied vocal massage with Voice care centre. Then in May I studied the chair massage course in preparation for volunteering at a London hospital.

We understand you also did well at a new competition?

I won first prize at a new championship – the UK Massage Championships – for Seated Massage as well as second prize in the Advanced category, second place in classical Swedish and a third place in the overall competition. At the National Massage Championships, I achieved second place for Chair Massage and second place for Advanced/Clinical massage. In the chair massage I used what I had learnt from Marc Innis as well as including some of the Indian Head Massage techniques and some of the Vocal Massage techniques.

What are your feelings about the massage competitions?

At first, I felt it was quite a strange idea to have a championship in massage.

In reality, it didn’t feel like a competition. It felt like a celebration of the profession itself. All the therapists were very supportive. It was really nice to meet them all. We spent time after sharing our feelings.

For me it was a great opportunity for highlighting what some do better and highlighting what you yourself can do better.

So much so that I am now inspired to travel and enter competitions abroad. It all felt so positive!

Both events, really nice to meet other therapists. Didn’t feel like a competition, everyone other
