“One of my favourite things to do during the summer months is to make a range of herbal infusions, from plantain and chickweed to rose and carrot. Here we spotlight carrot infused herbal oil which can be used in summer skincare oils to protect the skin from sun damage.

  • Carrot infused herbal oil is also beneficial for:
  • Wound healing
  • Burns
  • Mature/aging skin
  • Impetigo
  • Dermatitis, eczema
  • Improve the appearance of scar tissue
  • Dry skin
  • Rashes, itching

To make carrot infused oil

  • Carrots hold between 90-92% water and when infusing herbal oils, water is a source of potential bacterial growth. Therefore, it is important to dehydrate or dry the carrots prior to infusing.
  • Peel and thinly slice or shred the carrots.
  • Blanch the sliced or shredded carrots. Blanching is beneficial for enhancing the quality of the herbal oil.
  • Spread the carrots on a tray for the dehydrator.
  • Dehydrate at 125F for 8-12 hours. Shredded carrots may take less time.
  • Once the carrots are dehydrated, fill a sterilized, glass jar with the dehydrated carrots.
  • Cover with extra virgin olive oil or other appropriate carrier oil.
  • Macerate for 4-8 weeks.
  • Strain the oil through cheesecloth.

The carrot infused oil is now ready for use!

I like to combine 25% carrot infused herbal oil with 75% calendula herbal oil for my summer body oil. Nourishing, protective, and healing for the skin.”
